Photography has always been a passion of mine. I'm no professional, half the buttons on my camera are a mystery to me, even so, I have taken some decent shots. I decided to make a post about my favourite photos I've taken of bugs, arachnids and insects over the past year or so. In no particular order, here they are! :) Spruce Sawyer Beetle These guys are pretty common in Alberta, they supposedly have a really hard bite but thankfully I've never had the displeasure!

This is a variety of large jumping spider. There were SO many this year and I got several great pics, this is my favourite by far!

The lovely Jewel Spider These are beautiful spiders and HUGE! As scary as they may look they're actually quite beneficial for the garden :)

This very young brown grasshopper was so cute! He stayed on my sons hand for quite a while, totally content :)

This is a satin moth. The city deems them a pest and actually poison trees where they breed :( Calgary, our largest neighbour city just uses water hoses in autumn to wash away the eggs to control outbreaks, seems much more sensible!

This is a queen wasp who had overwintered in our basement. In the spring she emerged and was trying to get out the window. We collected her into a jar and fed her lots of dandelions which she sucked dry, then we set her free at the nature park :)

Here's a yellow swallowtail butterfly I had the pleasure of seeing this summer, so beautiful!

Not sure what type of spider this is but I believe her to be a pregnant female heavy with eggs. A very cool find either way! :)

This guy! Hyalophora kasloensis is his name, I made a post about this fellow already because he's just SO COOL! We currently have him overwintering in our shed and will set him free in the spring as a moth.

Read more about him here

Another spider! I know, lots of spiders, but they're all so cool! Like this picture I got of a goldenrod crab spider on the rose bush. She came out to say hello when I went to snap some pictures of the roses. So beautiful!

And last but not least a dragonfly. I have tons of appreciation for dragonflies, hornets and spiders, they keep the garden free of pests!

Thanks for reading!
