As the title suggests, I've been absent from this aspect of my life for a while. After last Mays event, Aware Health Fair, I've been totally tapped out. My energy, my creativity, my will to better the world, all got lost in that event and it's actually taken me this long to want to focus on anything besides keeping my family happy and healthy, and enjoying spring and summer, which is not such an outrageous notion anyhow.

We had the pleasure of visiting my home, Newfoundland, Canada, over the summer, and what an amazing trip it was! The wildlife, the scenery, the family and friends, the berries, OMG the berries..

My kids had an amazing time at my childhood home where my dad still resides. The front of the house opens to a lovely pond great for swimming and playing. Their favourite part was walking into the pond virtually evertime they got near it, regardless of their clothing or the temperature.

Surrounded by forest, we took a few trips into the woods and found plenty of things that interested my 4 year old. He made a new friend the first day, then set him free in the pond not realizing slugs can't swim! (Don't worry, I managed to fish him out and I'm sure he's still feasting on my dads garden as we speak)

My aunt filled his mind with wonder with her tall tales of

the fairies that live in her garden and their 'fairy pipes' which are actually Monotropa uniflora, a type of parasitic plant, which survives off certain types of fungi and lives in most mossy areas there, (So basically all of Newfoundland Ha!)

We have also been busy here in Edmonton. We have our usual

garden at our house, 4 raised beds for food and a side bed for trees and shrubs plus plenty of other stuff here and there. This year we also have about half of my mother in laws sandy garden space outside the city. Almost every weekend has been spent traipsing out there, or some other awesome summer activity, swimming, camping, hiking, whatever we can get into.

Some additional pics from our trip, enjoy!

Personally I think this is how we should all be spending our summers, outdoors as much as possible, growing as much delicious food as we can and spending quality time with family.

Everything else can wait.

Happy Summer!

Hello Autumn!
