Rough Waters Ahead....

Have you heard about what's happening in Newfoundland? I was born and raised on The Rock, and it is and will always be home to me. It's very distressing to see a premier step in and do even worse than the conservatives before him. You may not recall, Stephen Harper while in power LITERALLY burned books. He also incinerated scientific reports and studies.
The new liberal government in Newfoundland led by Dwight Ball may as well be doing the same. With his new budget, over half of the province's libraries are closing, OVER HALF. He has also decided to tax books. In a province with a very high illiteracy rate, this to me is completely unacceptable, yet it's only a small issue on the grand scale of things. Another aspect of Mr. Ball's new budget; taxing the people beyond the breaking point. Clearly he pays no attention to the fact that Newfoundland has ALWAYS had one of the highest taxes in the country. The cost of living there is unfathomable, it's no wonder so many have serious health issues or are obese, they can't afford nutritious food as it is, this new budget will only make things worse, making this winter the hardest in a very long time.
He also ignores the consistently high unemployment rate juxtaposition with the extremely hard working mentality of the citizens there. The people are willing to work, and they'll work hard too, they just need the jobs. Apparently that just gave him the genius idea to cut jobs right across the board. His thinking is not totally absurd, he wants to save as much as possible to avoid a VERY large deficit, to have a large deficit instead, which is unavoidable he says is due to terrible mismanagement by former government. While that may be true (I certainly am not a fan of the con government), taking funds from the lower and middle income citizens of the island is not a good way to start.
Newfoundland's economy needs a boost, an influx, money in targeted areas to stimulate, not a levy that leaves disparity and poverty in its wake.
Check out this video from Josh Taylor, he makes some great points, although he's much more lenient to the Liberals than I would be.
