Not long ago we had a Climate March here in Edmonton. It was supposed to incorporate the causes of climate change as we know them. There is certainly still much debate on this topic, I will pretend for the sake of this article that there are not people ignoring the facts of it actually happening. Intelligent and informed individuals do however, argue how much of an impact humans have on our climate and ocean temperature. Even the most skeptical will admit we are at least speeding up the process.

This march, very disappointingly decided to omit one of the biggest factors; animal agriculture. There is some debate here as well, especially regarding the figures presented in some popular documentaries. Regardless even with the lowest estimate, animal ag at least is equal to greenhouse gas output of all the vehicles on the planet.

Regardless of reasoning, I felt it was odd and was disappointed. However I try to never stay down for long, I envisioned a fresh new event, one where everyone would be included, where we could promote organic food and sustainability, renewable energy and veganism, permaculture and natural medicine, healthier alternatives for household products, and, well, you get the idea. As my husband put it, One Event To Rule Them All.

Usually, in May, we would be putting together the March Agsinst Monsanto. This is, afterall, how our group, Albertans for Food Safety, was formed. With attendance numbers dwindling and momentum fizzling on the movement, I felt it was time to let go. Monsanto may be a huge player in the world pesticide market but here in Alberta, not so much. Another issue with the May march is that, because it was started in the US, they usually hold it on May 24th weekend. No problemo for USA, not so great for Canadians planning their first camping trip of the year.

We got to work, I contacted all my fellow activists and invited them to join me to plan. I got a great group and started putting it all together. This event is nothing like a climate march, nothing like a march against monsanto, it's a one stop spot for all things natural, healthy and safe. I am still looking for a few missing pieces, vendors from certain areas I wish to cover. Farmers for example, most are just far too busy in May to have time to attend. I'm still hoping to collect the few I still need to put on our most amazing event to date!

Didnt I mention I have an amazing group of co-planners? One of them made this incredible poster!

I hope you'll join us!
