I'm a bit of a weirdo. I was raised celebrating Christmas in a very non-religious way. There was never any talk of Jesus or Mary or going to church. I am extremely thankful for that. It gave me the opportunity to form my own opinion on what I believe and not what was pushed on me as truth. I am now a happy atheist raising atheist children. The weird part? I still love xmas! Santa, decorations, the lights, the food and the gifts! Who wouldn't! So I have continued to celebrate it although I prefer to call it 'the holidays' or winter solstice, but realistically its just atheist exmas.. lol 1. Lego! Yes, Lego, this versatile toy can go from teaching fine motor skills for the kids to sharpening them for the grandparents! Have you ever checked out Lego Architecture? Or how about the creator series? Fantastic for older kids or kids at heart! You could build a Volkswagen Van, a Mini Cooper or even a Ferris Wheel! Got a techie on your list? Did you know Lego also makes ROBOTS!? They're so cool! 2. Get a custom t-shirt printed.

Easy enough, fairly inexpensive and can be so sentimental or hilarious, or both! Use an old baby photo, a pic of a long deceased pet or family member, or go the funny route with an inside family joke or saying. It doesn't have to be a shirt, a mug, a hat, plenty of options! The possibilities are literally endless!

3. Something homemade.

Whether you like to craft or not there's sure to be something fun you can make at home; a sugar scrub, lotion or bath soak? A hand made ornament? Maybe something a little more exhilarating involving welding, soldering or any

power tools?! I just got my first wood burning kit and I'm loving it! How about something in a jar like the makings for cookies or chip dip! Perhaps you have an artistic flare? Something hand knitted or a painting? The possibilities are endless! 4. Gadgets!

I LOVE gadgets, love them! My favourite gadget find was for my musically inclined brother, I bought him a 'pick punch' it's like a hole punch but instead you can punch out guitar picks! That way you can use any material you like to make the perfect pick! He loved it which made me so happy! Even giving gifts is self serving for me! Ha! Check out Pinterest and search gadgets for again, an endless amount of things.

5. FOOD!

Delicious nutritious food! Whether it's treats you made at home or maybe something fancy like organic dried mangoes dipped in dark chocolate, (yup that's a thing and I nearly lost my mind right there in the store!) Another idea is to make some freezer food for the busy mom on your list, some frozen casseroles or veggie balls frozen and ready to save her time when she needs it! I know I'd certainly love some organic vegan freezer meals in my freezer right about now!

Whatever you buy your loved ones make it special and from the heart. Our world is so driven to consume, Consume, CONSUME!!! We buy things we don't need with money we don't have only to throw it out a few months later. Make sure your gifts are practical, thoughtful and the person will actually use it! Happy winter!
